Dick Clark's Live Wednesday originally aired Wednesday, September 20th 1978.

Broadcast live from NBC studios in Burbank California, Dick Clark's Live Wednesday was a short lived variety show featuring a wide spectrum of top of the line entertainment acts, nearly all of whom performed live in front of a studio audience. Singing, dancing, comedy performances and death defying stunt acts were just some of the many sights that could be seen on this memorable program. For a brief time in television history some of the biggest names in entertainment could be found every Wednesday night performing live for the audience, and the viewers at home, on that NBC soundstage.

This was the premiere episode of this very entertaining program and many big name stars were on the roster this night. Among the night's guests were: Diana Ross, comic Johnny Yune, Jimmy and Kristy McNichol, Ricky Nelson, Tiny Tim, CHiPs star Erik Estrada and the L.A. Rams Cheerleaders! The program also featured a salute to teen idols of the past and tv/movie stuntman Dar Robinson did a trampoline act suspended 300ft in the air by a helicopter! The night then came to an riotous end with a number by an all-star music super group (lead by conductors Paul Williams and Doc Severinsen) which included: Hot, Chuck Berry, Hoyt Axton, Charlie Rich, Frankie Avalon, Doug Kershaw, Walter Murphy, Eddie Money, Pete Best, Elvin Bishop, Donald Byrd, Stanley Clarke, Jimmy Seals, Dash Crofts, Charlie Daniels, Rick Danko, Johnny Rivers, Mongo Santamaria, Bo Diddley, James Guercio, Nigel Olsson, Billy Preston, and Marvin Hamlisch!

Jimmy McNichol and little sister Kristy had a short musical number of their own; they were on the show to perform the song He's a Dancer from their album Kristy & Jimmy McNichol.
